Thank you to everyone who participated in the Winter Wonderland Choreography class! This is the video from our performance, December 2012.
Congratulations to all of you- we created this piece together from scratch in only 4 rehearsals! For most of you, it was your first Blues performance ever, and even first dance performance. I look forward to working with you all again soon

DJ Battle- Stan’s Victory Dance!

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the FNB DJ Battle, October 2012!

The participants were Stan Tso, Jenny Sowden, Alfredo Melendez, and John Joven.

In the end it was a very close call between Alfredo and Stan- but our house DJ prevailed and won the competition through audience votes. Here is his victory dance!

ΔpTed is a system of analysis of communication within connection in partner dance. It was developed by Joe DeMeres, who after 2 years of exploring, writing, and editing, just got it published in a very respected dance education publication a few months ago. At first I was skeptical, but after spending many hours discussing the concepts with him and 18 other amazingly talented and smart blues dancers, I have been both impressed and sold on almost every aspect of the system. Take the time to read it, its worth it.

Running a Blues Dance

Is kind of awesome, actually. I’m having a great time. Since taking over for Mihai, I’ve met so many amazing people and learned so much.
Here are a few things I’ve learned:

- If you give them the opportunity, people are actually very kind and want to help out

- Red light bulbs are sexy, blue ones are weird. Don’t even try Green.

- Sometimes you just have to let things go, its not always going to work out the way you had planned- it might work out better!

- NYC tap water is some of the best in the world- and it tastes just as good as bottled water.

- Its amazing what you can accomplish with a couple pieces of tape and a plastic cup.

-European accents are hot. European dancers are even hotter.

- Altoids are a dancer’s best friend.

- Always buy more paper towels then you think you will need. Double it for toilet paper.

- Sharpie Markers work better on the clear cups then on the red ones. And you have to write on the cup Before you fill it with water.
